THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Seantrel Henderson is sticking to his commitment to Southern California, his father said yesterday, and the blue-chip offensive line prospect plans to sign a national letter of intent in the next few days.
In a text message to The Dispatch, Sean Henderson said his son's "ACT scores came in Friday. He is now academically eligible and will be signing with USC this week."
Seantrel Henderson, of St. Paul, Minn., had pared his list to USC, Ohio State, the University of Miami, Notre Dame, Florida and Minnesota before announcing Feb. 3 that he had picked the Trojans. That was the first day letters of intent could be signed; the last is April 1, and he opted not to sign immediately.
He and his family wanted to try to gauge what possible sanctions USC might face from the four-year NCAA investigation of alleged improprieties by Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and his family. What they've learned is, if there are penalties, they won't be known until possibly the summer.
There also was a question of Henderson's academic eligibility as a freshman since he had yet to attain a qualifying pre-enrollment test score. According to his father, he has now met that requirement.
Though he maintained his commitment to USC during that time, Henderson opted to keep entertaining offers from Ohio State and Miami in case he had a change of heart.
"He has thought about having options and the possibility of taking advantage of them," Sean Henderson said. "But he chose to stick with USC."
Ohio State's 2010 recruiting apparently will rest with 19 names, the last of which was the mid-February signing of DeSales running back/defensive back Adam Griffin, a son of two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin.
